Deviled eggs, chopped egg salads, convenient snacks… hard-boiled eggs are a common cooking necessity and, better yet, they’re easy to make! Celebrate National Egg Month with these easy steps to boil eggs just the way you like them, whether you’re making a shareable summer side dish or serving nutritious on-the-go snacks to your loved ones (or yourself).

  1. Place eggs in a saucepan (being careful not to crack them) then cover with cold water. By placing the eggs first, you can avoid them sinking and cracking when they hit the bottom of the pan.
  2. Turn the heat to high and bring the water to a boil. Once the water is boiling, remove the pan from the heat and cover. Break out the timer! For softer yolks and egg whites, leave them in the covered pot for 2-4 minutes. Firmer yolks and whites require 6-10 minutes and fully set will take 10-15 minutes.
  3. Once you’ve cooked the eggs to your liking, drain the water and place the eggs in a bowl filled with ice water to quickly cool them and prevent additional cooking. When the eggs are cooled, you can crack and peel them before storing in an airtight container or using them for your favorite recipes.
