We all long for those carefree summer days as kids, with no worries, no stress and no responsibilities. As parents? It’s a whole different story.
Summer days mean more meals at home, which calls for some serious planning. Starting each day with a filling breakfast can help keep kiddos energized for whatever the day may bring, from games of hide and seek or swimming to baseball practices, playdates and beyond.
Egg Muffins
The best morning meals are those you can prepare the night before, saving valuable time in the morning for routines and getting out the door. Egg muffins are a perfect example – they take just half an hour or so to prepare, can be personalized to your loved ones’ taste preferences (sausage, bacon, peppers, cheese, etc.) and reheat in a snap.
Pancakes
If your day can afford a few minutes in the kitchen, turn to a kid-friendly classic: pancakes. They can be as simple (boxed mix and water/milk) or complex (made from scratch) as you like. Just remember to mix in some flavorful additions like blueberries or chocolate chips for a truly delicious way to start the day.
Overnight Oats
Another great option for saving time in the morning, overnight oats says it right in the name – just layer your favorite ingredients in small jars then refrigerate overnight for grab-and-go breakfasts. Best of all, little ones can help pick out their toppings so they feel included in the process, often helping them branch out and try new things.
Fruit Kebabs
For those with lighter morning appetites, fruit kebabs offer a nutritious option that won’t leave you feeling overly full with tasks to tackle. Thread your favorites – strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, pineapple cubes, orange segments, watermelon cubes and the like – onto miniature skewers then enjoy or serve with a yogurt dip.
