When kiddos come home for the summer, it means long days in the sun and activities that require plenty of energy, concentration and, most importantly, hydration. Staying hydrated for all those warm-weather games and play time doesn’t just come down to water intake.

In fact, there are plenty of ways (including some kids will be excited about!) to ensure children are balancing activity with health and hydration.

  • Add Fun to Plain Old Water: Yes, a simple glass of water is the best way for kids to hydrate, but where’s the fun in that? Make rehydrating after a game of tag a bit more fun by freezing 100% fruit juice to make tasty ice cubes. Or simply freeze whole strawberries, blueberries or blackberries and add them to a pitcher of water.
  • Enjoy Healthy Snacks: Foods can help you hydrate, too! Watermelon, for example, is 92% water for an equally nutritious and delicious snack you can slice, cube, ball or blend.
  • Test Your Smoothie-Making Skills: Take the yummy fruits one step further by blending them into cool, refreshing smoothies children can enjoy in the shade. Bigger kids can even lend a hand, helping pick out fruit at the grocery store, choosing their favorite varieties, measuring ingredients and adding them to the blender.
