Tired of sugar-filled Halloween treats? Better yet, tired of your kids eating too many of them?
Bring a bit of spooky fun to the kitchen this year by skipping the chocolatey snacks and using fruit instead! These Silly Apple Monsters from My Joy-Filled Life get little ones involved with a touch of creativity and some extra nutrition.
With a green apple as the “monster’s” head and peanut butter, strawberries and sunflower seeds, you can encourage them to put down prepackaged sweets and opt for a naturally sweet snack instead.
- Adults can start by cutting a green apple into quarters. Lay the quarters down then cut a 1-inch wedge in the center of each quarter to look like a mouth. Cut strawberries lengthwise into slices to resemble tongues.
- Now it’s time for the kids to take over. Spread peanut butter inside the wedges (mouths) of the apple quarters then place one strawberry in each. Push sunflower seeds into the top of the wedges to resemble teeth.
- Finish the creations by sticking edible candy eyes on the skin of the apple quarters just above the mouths.
